Simplify Data Migration

The Cisco MDS Data Mobility Manager (DMM) is a SAN fabric-based software application that lets you move blocks of data from a source device to a destination device. Typically this capability addresses:

  • Array lease expiration events
  • Capacity planning
  • Implementation of tiered storage strategies

The Cisco MDS DMM is implemented on the Cisco MDS 9000 18/4-Port Multiservice Module, Cisco MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Switch, or Cisco storage services module (SSM) line cards of Cisco MDS 9000 Series Switches. For SSM, Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS Software Version 3.2 or later is required. The Cisco MDS 9000 18/4-Port Multiservice Module and MDS 9222i Multiservice Modular Switch require Cisco MDS 9000 NX-OS Software Version 4.1 or later.

Insert Data Transparently

The Cisco MDS DMM's most valuable feature is its transparent insertion, which allows administrators to complete data movement:

  • Without any configuration changes to the host, the SAN, or the array
  • With minimal disruption to the application
  • Without needing support from systems, database, and applications administrators

Cisco MDS DMM also includes several control knob features such as rate control and verification capability. You can control these capabilities from an easy-to-use GUI wizard that simplifies the task of migrating data.
